I am one of the soldiers who trained the KLB in U.S. Armor tactics and conducted their transition to the M1A2. Many of the Kuwaiti Officers are highly competent. The Commander I was assigned was a West Point grad, graduated from AOB, AOAC and the Commanders Course at Knox. But the troops, different story. They don't GAF. Many weren't even Kuwaiti, they were hired labor and were only there because it paid well. Their only interest was in sitting still and sending rounds downrange, could care less about a proper defense (Much less a defense in depth), forget offensive operations and tactical maneuver, and I am not kidding when I say they were satisfied with a one round per minute ROF on an M1A2. They 100% relied on the U.S. to defend Kuwait. That was in '96 during Desert Strike when 2nd Brigade, 1st Cav deployed. Fast forward nine years, as a military contractor with MPRI, I trained numerous armies, including Arab Armies. not only on armored warfare tactics/gunnery but also on MOUT, CQB, Gun Truck Ops, IED/VBIED (I was there in the meetings and helped develop some of the first IED/VBIED countermeasures. Before General Miegs, my old Armored Cav Commander, took over that mission that was the domain of Colonel Larry Word, my boss, both deceased so figure it's OK to mention them), It was no better. But I have plenty to say about how our own posture devolved over the same period, and it's also not much better. But if Iran were to execute ground operations, there is zero doubt in my SME opinion that the Middle East balance of power changes permanently. Back in January the Israeli's said even if the Iranians got nukes, the balance of power would not shift in the region. Boochit. There is nobody there that will defeat Iran in a ground campaign. I won't go into the reasons why, because it would require a freaken novel. One thing I can guarantee, that is not a fight we, the U.S. wants, or one we are even capable of executing.
